Zoot Finster - is an ageing hipster, a timeless fan - steps
out in search of the story of modern jazz. He's hip to the
cats of the late forties like Charlie Blott "Who got off on
a kinda late-swing style with modern touches..." - but he
wants more, much more. As Zoot travels from the fifties through
to the eighties in his souped-up, beat-down 'bird mobile',
he unveils many of the old faces and neglected venues that
are at the heart of this musical history.
Zoot digs jazz from a wider social context - one that's hip
to the rock, the bop and the freakier side of life. "Australia
was a little isolated in the fifties and modern jazz, well
that was something very different sort of subterranean..."
For Zoot, that's where it began.
Zoot Finster will take you on a an unforgettable journey through
the lives of leading jazz exponents, bringing to the screen
some of the most memorable music you'll have the pleasure
of experiencing for a long, long time.
Beyond El Rocco is an epic journey through the floating world
of modern jazz.
